New system of higher education brought the fulltime legal education course in the name of LLB degree in 2000. It became a five year, full-time course of study at the Department of Law.

The first postgraduate legal degree program at the Department of Law, the LLM degree program, was established in 2000.  The new LLM program presently run is two years in duration.  The program offers the opportunity to specialize in two different areas: Civil Law and International Law. During their first three semesters students take requisite Masters level course and are assessed by examination.  During their final semester, students must undertake their own research and produce a written thesis.

This is a one year program dedicates to researching the law.  Students were required to develop and produce a significant piece of scholarship during their candidacy.  LLM degree holders who are qualified to do research are admitted to this program. This will be no more MRes programme at Taunggyi University since 2019-2020 academic year.

Diploma in Business Law course (D.B.L) has begun by the Department of Law under the Human Resources Development Program of Taunggyi University since May, 2019.  Any graduate person who passes the entrance examination can attend the D.B.L Course. This Diploma course is aimed for developing and enhancing the legal knowledge and skill for the community and business sector in Shan State. It is a part-time program in the morning during weekdays. Department of Law is now planning to open Diploma in International Law Course (D.I.L) for being a resource centre which can support international legal knowledge to the stakeholders in Shan State. To maintain quality education, the entrance examination is held and the successful students only can be admitted to sit in Diploma Courses.

Admission Requirements (DBL, DIL)

  • A Bachelor Degree from any recognized University
  • Copy of degree certificate
  • Should not be seeking education on other Universities or Institutes
  • Should attend the programme between 7am and 9am, from Monday to Friday
  • Satisfactory results on Entrance Examination
  • Five current passport-size photos
